The soundtrack is decoded and re-encoded on your own machine, so there is no upload and no size cap beyond your device's memory. Very long videos need a lot of it. Mono and MP3 are much lighter than stereo WAV.
Your browser asks you to pick a screen or tab first, even though only the sound is kept. In that picker you
must tick “Share tab audio” (or “Share system audio”). Without it there is nothing to record.
Sharing a single tab is the most reliable option.

The original recording downloads instantly because nothing is re-encoded. MP3 and WAV have to decode and re-encode it first, which takes a moment on a long recording.
